And I'm REALLY, REALLY, REALLY liking this ten Legend Coupe. I know next to nothing about them other than they're cheap and easy as fuck to find in manual. Anything I should look out for? Are they decent on gas? Also, if anyone has alternatives, please suggest. But first, my criteria:
-No convertibles. This is a WINTER BEATER.
-Must have fairly decent cargo space (I'm a delivery driver)
-I'd like to see at least 20 mpg city
-Manuals are welcome, but i have no preference
-I'd like FWD or AWD, because WINTER BEATER, but honestly, so long as it's not a solid rear axle, I'll be happy.
-cheap maintenance would be a huge plus, and I like Hondas a lot
-under $2k

If you get a Legend, do this.

I can't find ANY with 3 pedals, or even any of them near me.

Lol EVERY COUPE near me is a manual (and they're like 1/3 of the ones for sale)

Is that not what the Pilot is?
![]() 08/29/2014 at 14:01 |

Nah. The Pilot is in absolutely fantastic condition, and it gets around 15 mpg city. Hence wanting a beater.

Lucky you. Seems like a good choice for a winter beater.
I guess an accord could do the job pretty well too, or an accord coupe if that's what you'd prefer.

With that criteria, a Civic or Accord.

Sell the Pilot and get 2 cars?

what about an old maxima/sentra?

I was gonna sell the Bimmer and get a more modern one. The Pilot is way too useful to be expendable yet.

How many cars do you have?
![]() 08/29/2014 at 14:05 |

I'd love a B13, but they're rare as shit near me. And everyone I've known with a maxima has had weird problems with them.

Ben Rolland is as Ben Rolland does.

As of writing- 3. But the sonata gets returned to hyundai in like an hour.

so i'll throw in the standard response of WRX. iI will also nominate the Ford Ranger. You can get it with a Fiberglass cap to keep your deliveries out of the weather. They are small so good gas mileage (2dr short bed anyway) They are common with both forms of transmissions. There is nothing more fun in snow than 2wd and turning a knob to get 4wd when you get stuck. the higher clearance will make sure you get thru whatever has snowed down in front of you.

My dad bought a '90 Legend coupe, which was the last year of the original style before they went to this style in '91. It eventually became my car. Which I liked, but I always got a little jealous when I saw a 2nd gen.

A beater WRX under 3k? Well I suppose when it inevitably breaks down from shoddy driving the previous guy did and sits in a shop for 4 months, you'll be beating someone.
I like rangers.

I had a Hyundai Elantra wagon back in the day that was unkillable (I tried... oh how I tried). Not fun to drive, but super cheap, tons of space (the rear seats fold totally flat instead of being angled up against the bottom of the seat bottoms), and because the H on it is for Hyundai instead of Honda, it's going to be way cheaper for the condition. Mine was a 2000 one, which was about the time that Hyundai got their shit together regarding the mechanical bits (don't expect the interior to hold up, but this is a winter beater amiright?). The transmission felt like it was slipping and sometimes the gas pedal needed to be prodded to get it to make up its mind, but it was absolutely fine. Every mechanic said that the transmission was on its way out, but it lasted for the 60,000 miles I had it (got the car at 130k) without any maintenance. Eventually I scrapped the thing when I finally got a real job, but I'm fairly certain that it will always be the best car I've ever owned.

(I'm a delivery driver)
In all seriousness. I'd go for a Legacy.

can't think of anything else that would be at least somewhat interesting that is also reliable.

I like the 95 Camry Wagon (has 2 rear wipers!)

I'd normally suggest an Audi, but 99% of them are complete shit under $2k.

Now that's an idea worth entertaining.

Are you sure you don't want a solid rear axle?
![]() 08/30/2014 at 18:38 |

So you want a cheap, reliable car with low cost replacement parts , cheap maintenance and easy to work on by yourself? For $2000.00 you can get a second generation Saturn S series (1996-1999), they are good in the snow, the polymer plastic body panels do not rust or dent and they get 36 mph on the highway.

My 1989 Toyota Pickup 2wd?
Cargo space? Check (free canopy!).
20mpg? Try 24. Check.
5-speed? Check.
Cheap maintenance? Three years of daily driving I have replaced only a 3 dollar fuel filter. Check.
Beater? Try 289k and still starts up every time.
Under 2k? I'll sell it for $1k.

That is probably one of the best-looking two grand cars I have seen.
If that was around the corner, I would have to find a way to suppress my tears.

1. You had me at VRRAM! 2. White car, blends in beautifully 3. Those apartment buildings are a freaking non sequitur and I wonder where the blue f—- that was filmed.
At the end of the clip, I half expected to hear passionate applause.

Some say there are five thousand reasons to disagree, but yeah. Although I kind of find the skill of closing the windows with the fingertips of both hands a charming thing to be able to acquire.
A very good friend of mine had a 1986 Audi 5000 wagon for a notably notable period of time, years, until it was around 200k miles (he got it with 60k) and that was a lovely car. It was a five-speed stick. At the end, the drive-train was still good (even if the HVAC et al were ehh) and those blue cloth seats were good as new throughout, freaking thrones, wonderful car.

It reminds me of some of the fun I've had in my white '95, when I spent a winter in Pa.
